HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ee0012no

Hello.

After installing two updates yesterday the touchscreen ceased to work. There is no driver under HID devices, no touch screen related test in UEFI Hardware Diagnostics.

Also the I2C HID device has an error with the description:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

A request for the HID descriptor failed.

Updates:
2025-04 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5054979)

2025-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5055523)

I also noticed there are no native Windows 11 drivers available.

I tried reinstalling the graphics driver. The Synaptics Precision Touchpad Filter Driver fails the installation (not compatible with Windows 11).

What else can I try? Do I have to install Windows 10 in order for the touch screen to work?

Thanks and all the best

EDIT: The BIOS is also updated.

@urmo4, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like a frustrating issue—especially since your HP ENVY x360 - 15-ee0012no touchscreen was working fine before the Windows updates. Since you're encountering a Code 10 error with the I2C HID device, let’s walk through some troubleshooting steps before considering a rollback to Windows 10.

Check for Hidden Devices in Device Manager

Since the HID-compliant touchscreen isn't showing up:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Click View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand Human Interface Devices.
  4. If HID-compliant touch screen appears grayed out or with a warning:
    • Right-click it and select Uninstall device.
    • Reboot your laptop to see if it reappears.

If it’s completely missing, proceed to the next steps.

Remove Problematic I2C HID and Reinstall

The Code 10 error often relates to issues with the I2C driver.

  1. In Device Manager, uninstall the I2C HID Device (found under Human Interface Devices).
  2. If prompted, check "Delete the driver software for this device."
  3. Restart your laptop.

Windows will attempt to reinstall a generic version—check if the touchscreen functionality returns.

Manually Install AMD I2C Controller Driver

The touchscreen on AMD-based HP x360 laptops often relies on the AMD GPIO/I2C controller driver.

Ensure that you're not just updating graphics drivers, but also the chipset drivers.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI (Full Version)

If the UEFI diagnostics doesn’t show a touchscreen test, consider reinstalling the full offline diagnostics:

  1. Go to HP UEFI Diagnostics download.
  2. Create a bootable USB or run it from within Windows.
  3. Check if the touchscreen is detected now and test it.

If UEFI doesn’t recognize it even with the full diagnostics, it may indicate a hardware or firmware-level issue—often a driver or ACPI conflict.

Revert Windows Update (Temporarily)

One of the recent updates (likely KB5055523) may have caused the issue. You can:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
  2. Click Uninstall updates and remove KB5055523.
  3. Restart your laptop and check if the touchscreen returns.

If it does, consider pausing updates temporarily while waiting for a fix.

Use Windows 10 Drivers on Windows 11 (Test Only)

Since Windows 11 might not have the necessary native drivers, you could try using Windows 10’s drivers:

  • Manually download the Windows 10 version of the GPIO/I2C and HID touchscreen driver from HP.
  • Use Device Manager > Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick > Have Disk.
  • Force install the compatible version.

Be cautious—this is more of a workaround, and you may need to disable driver signature enforcement.

Bonus Tips:

  • Disable Fast Startup (can affect ACPI/I2C).
  • Check for Windows Optional Updates > Driver Updates—the touch driver might be offered there.
  • Run the commands sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to check for and repair system file corruption.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
