Hi @James66230,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Touchpad Settings

  1. Select the Search icon in the taskbar.
  2. Type touchpad settings in the search box and press Enter.
  3. Ensure that the touchpad is enabled and adjust the settings as needed.

Update Touchpad Driver

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices category.
  3. Right-click on your touchpad driver and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the on-screen instructions.

Turn on the Touchpad

  1. Select the Search icon in the taskbar.
  2. Type touchpad settings in the search box and press Enter.
  3. Using an external mouse, click the touchpad button to turn it on.
  4. If you are not using an external mouse, press the Tab key repeatedly until the pointer rests on the touchpad button, then press the Spacebar to select the button.

Enable Touchpad Using Function Keys

  1. Look for the Touchpad toggle key on your keyboard (usually one of the function keys like F6, F7 or F9).
  2. Press this key in combination with the Fn key to toggle the touchpad on and off.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu screen appears.
  2. Press F2 to open the System Diagnostics.
  3. Run the touchpad test to check for any hardware issues.

Reset Your Laptop

  1. Select the Search icon in the taskbar, type reset in the search box, and select Reset this PC.
  2. Follow the instructions to reset your laptop while keeping your files.

I hope this helps.
