Just purchased this laptop and touch screen not working.  Ran Hardware diagnostics, checked for updates, restarted computer.  What's next?  I really like the touch screen.

Hi @LGM104,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP laptop's touch screen is not working, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Confirm Touch Screen is Enabled:

  • Go to Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand "Human Interface Devices."
  • Look for a device called "HID-compliant touch screen." If it is disabled, right-click on it and choose "Enable device."

Calibrate the Touch Screen:

  • Open the Control Panel (search for it in the Start menu).
  • Navigate to "Hardware and Sound."
  • Under "Tablet PC Settings," select "Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate your touch screen.

Update or Roll Back Drivers:

  • In the Device Manager, right-click on "HID-compliant touch screen" and select "Update driver."
  • If the problem started after a recent update, you could also try rolling back the driver from the same menu by selecting "Properties," then the "Driver" tab, and clicking "Roll Back Driver."

Run the HP Support Assistant:

  • If it's not already installed, you can download and install it from HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

  • Open HP Support Assistant and run a full diagnostic check for any updates or hardware issues.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes, the touch screen issue can be fixed by installing the latest Windows updates.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If your touch screen worked before and has stopped functioning recently, you can try performing a system restore.
  • Search for "Create a restore point" in the Start menu.
  • Click on "System Restore" in the System Properties window, and follow the prompts to restore to an earlier point when the touch screen was functional.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
