A few days ago the touchpad on my HP Pavillion laptop started to behave erratically. It doesn't respond well when touching/clicking and instead it moves around by itself and open and close down windows on the screen. I can still use an usb-connected mouse but that's only convenient when I'm sitting by a desk and not when I'm somewhere else. The drivers have the latest update.
Any guess what could be the issue?
A swollen battery? Or just normal wear after 3 years of daily use?
Any advice?
Thanks in advance

Hi @Bluebell_Mars2
Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.
I see that you are facing touchpad-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.
May I know from when are you facing this issue?
Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?
Let's try to run a test on the touchpad from F2(Please capture the failure ID for further assistance.
Depending on the test results, If the test passes, I would suggest you could try to restore the drivers from the Recovery manager.
For a start please check in the device manager if the touchpad drivers are installed correctly. Steps to do it:
Right-click on start>click on device manager>Mice and other pointing devices> check for Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad drivers.
Now restart the computer and then update the drivers from the HP recovery manager- Click here for Instructions.
If the issue persists, please use the link below and follow the steps. Once done, let me know the outcome of it: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/diagnostics?category=computing&issue=keyboard-trackpad-touchpad-is...

Hi, thanks for the help.
I ran HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tests for the touchpad.
And then I updated the drivers through the HP recovery manager.
It seem to have gotten better, the touchpad has worked fine since the update.
