Spectre x360 model: 13-ap0023dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On a fresh boot, I can use my touchpad perfectly and can scroll using windows 10 gestures (two finger scroll).  After the computer sleeps (I shut the lid, come back in several hours or next day), I cannot scroll using the two-finger method.  Touchpad still registers touch, as I can move the cursor.  Why can I not scroll?  Synaptics HID TouchPad driver is version 19.5.35.17.

After the non-working condition exists, if I reboot, it works fine.  What's up?

I've found that if I touch the screen and scroll by dragging my finger, then the touchpad responds again.  I'm going to live with it rather than go through the steps you listed.  Thanks though.

@bruderbell,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: HP Notebook PCs - How to Power Reset your Laptop

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform a Windows update:

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you could try to update the Bios, Chipset and touchpad drivers on your PC using HP Support Assistant.

To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance!
