I need help with touchpad issues. The laptop is new and has all the most up to date drivers according to HP

1. I don't like that when I hover over anything the action happens. I want to have to double click. Right now pages open, close, things delete etc. without my input. I cannot move the cursor away fast enough sometimes. This is particularly concerning when it opens a link in an email that I would never have clicked on, or opens multiple browser pages, or closes them.

2. Just moving the cursor around a page causes highlighting and deletion of text etc.

I have tried all the suggestions I have found online to no avail.

Please help.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the touchpad on the computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the product number of your computer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver from the device manager and then download and install the driver from the below link.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for the suggestion.

HP Notebook 15-bs144wm

I do not see any update to the driver having occurred in Windows Update.

I have downloaded the touchpad driver for my notebook from HP downloads, and have deleted and reinstalled multiple times.

It is the same driver, there only appears to be one current and supported for my laptop, and I have it, and have always had it, and have also downloaded it, and installed it multiple times. Nothing changes.

I still do not have the missing clickpad settings tab in mouse properties so I can make the changes I want to hover select, and hopefully to stop highlighting when only moving the cursor over text. Everything I read online states this is the tab I need.

The only thing I am not doing from your list, because I do not have the skill set to open up the computer and start fiddling around, is to remove the touchpad

  • When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

I recommend you download and install the driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I did as you suggested. Message was that driver is not supported for my laptop.

I have been working on this for weeks now and have attempted to install all touchpad drivers on the HP list for my laptop. The only one that is supported is the one I have, that has always been on my laptop.

Is there anyone who can/will give me the information to add hover to click to the registry so I can turn it off there?

What is the version of Windows you are using? (Like 1909, 2004 or 20H2)

Follow the steps in the below article and perform a cloud recovery on the computer.
