Hi @Greatamritais, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop's touchpad stopped working after a Windows 11 update and the I2C HID device has failed, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check if the Touchpad is Enabled
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
Update or Reinstall I2C HID Drivers
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Locate I2C HID Device (it might have a yellow warning triangle).
- Update Driver:
- Right-click I2C HID Device > Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If that doesn't work, try reinstalling:
- Right-click I2C HID Device > Uninstall device > Restart your laptop.
- Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
Roll Back the Driver
- If the issue started after a Windows update:
- Right-click I2C HID Device in Device Manager.
- Select Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver (if available).
- Restart your laptop.
Enable I2C in BIOS
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del at startup).
- Look for Advanced settings and ensure I2C is enabled.
- Save and exit.
Perform a Power Drain
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug everything back and restart.
Manually Install HP Synaptics/ELAN Touchpad Driver
- Go to HP’s official website and download the latest touchpad driver for your model.
- Install it and restart.
Use System Restore
- If the problem started after an update, you can restore Windows to a point before the issue:
- Win + R > type rstrui > Select a restore point before the update.
Reset Windows (Last Resort)
If nothing works, consider Resetting Windows (keeping files):
- Settings > System > Recovery > Reset this PC.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
