Hello! Recently I started having a problem with my laptop’s touchpad. The issue appeared suddenly after I transported the laptop from location A to location B.
Now the touchpad is not responding normally. It feels delayed, and sometimes it acts like it is being clicked even when I am not touching it. When the laptop is sitting idle on my desk, the mouse will occasionally click on its own.
I checked the touchpad by pressing on all four corners to see if it was stuck in a clicked position, but it did not seem stuck. I also inspected the laptop screen and the back of the laptop to see if there were any bends or dents that might have happened during transport, but I could not find any visible damage.
I also ran the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic tool, but unfortunately it did not identify or fix the issue.
At this point, I’m not sure how to proceed and would appreciate any advice on what I should try next.

Hi @MazenE,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I Understand your concern about the touchpad issue , don’t worry let me help you with this.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- The exact HP laptop model you’re using
- Whether the issue happens only when the laptop is plugged in or also on battery
- If you’ve noticed the problem in all applications, or mainly in certain programs
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:
- Update Drivers
- Go to Device Manager → Mice and other pointing devices → Right-click your touchpad → Update driver.
- Alternatively, check HP Support Assistant for the latest touchpad driver updates.
- Reset Touchpad Settings
- Open Windows Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad.
- Reset sensitivity and gestures to default, then test again.
- Check for External Interference
- Disconnect any external mouse or USB devices to rule out conflicts.
- If you use a wireless mouse, try turning it off temporarily.
- Run Windows Updates
- Ensure your system is fully updated, as patches often resolve driver or hardware communication issues.
- Perform a Hard Reset
- Shut down your laptop, unplug the power adapter, and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect and restart this clears residual electrical states that sometimes affect input devices
I hope this helps.
