Here is the solution to resolve PCI Express Root Complex driver Issue Click here to view the instructions!

Envy Dv7
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Occasionally the touchpad stops responding, it's not being disabled by the corner on/off option, and using the on/off doesn't fix it, it sometimes resolves itself, but often I need to go into mouse settings and open "device settings" and use reset device to fix it.

Attempting to update the driver's results in it telling me the driver's are already the best available. I reset the machine and wiped out all of my personal files to try to fix this, but it keeps doing it anyway. If I plug in an external mouse, when the touchpad locks up the external will still work. I've disabled the palm detection of the touchpad to see if that helps, it didn't. It just randomly locks up at times. Any idea how to fix it? My BIOS is up to date, F.2E - 09/07/2016

It said the SMART reported my drive was failing, so I ran the HD test, it said it passed but only tests Drive 1, there is no way to test Drive 2 (the problem drive) so I removed both drives and set drive 2 up to be drive 1 and ran the HDD test again, it said it passed both quick and extended test. I put the drives back as Drive 1 and Drive 2, then Windows started and everything is working. I download the HP assist program and it only had updates for my audio drivers, the support tool says both HDD SMART report OK status.

so far things seem to be working well.  If you can suggest that BIOS should be able to test both HDD 1 and HDD2 that would be cool.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Firstly, let's perform Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

Next, BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Next, uninstall touchpad device from device manager.

  1. Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the entry. Right-click the Keyboard device and select Uninstall device.
  4. You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.
(once its done uninstall Human Interface device by following the same method)
  5. Reboot the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I did that, now my second hard drive randomly disappears.

it will see it for a while and randomly stop reading/writing, then it disappears, even from the Disk Management console. I can only get it back by rebooting. 😞

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Keep me posted for further assistance.

I can't get to windows now, it won't start up. It just turns on to a black screen, or a blue HP logo with a twirling white loading animation, but never gets past that. One time it said starting automatic repair after a few reboots but then just loaded a black screen. I think the laptop died

Glad to hear that the issue is resolved. Yes! in bios you will be able to check both devices and also you can prioritize the boot drive.
