@Tushki, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Touchpad Issues on HP Laptops!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your laptop's touchpad is not functioning properly or has disappeared, here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Enable the Touchpad

Check the Touchpad Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure the touchpad is enabled.

Use the Function Key:

  • Some laptops have a function key to enable or disable the touchpad. It might be combined with another key, usually an F key.
  • Look for an icon that represents the touchpad, and press the relevant keys (e.g., Fn + F7).

Step 2: Check Device Manager

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

Find Your Touchpad:

  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  • Look for your touchpad device (usually named "Synaptics" or "Elan").

Update Driver:

  • Right-click on your touchpad device and select Update Driver.
  • Follow the prompts to update the driver.

Enable Device:

  • Right-click on your touchpad device and ensure it is enabled.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

When I try to update the driver, this is what I get.

Tried Function keys, did not work.

My settings do not show Touchpad in Devices in Settings.

@Tushki, Thanks for the update, Tushki.

The "I2C HID Device - Code 10" error means the system can’t start the touchpad driver, likely due to a corrupted or incompatible driver.

Here’s what to do:

Uninstall the I2C HID Device:

Open Device Manager

Expand Human Interface Devices

Right-click I2C HID Device > Uninstall device

Check Delete the driver software if prompted

Reboot your laptop

Install the touchpad driver manually:

Go to your HP laptop’s support page

Download the Synaptics, Elan, or Precision Touchpad driver for your model

Install it manually

Enable from BIOS (if needed):

Reboot and enter BIOS (usually Esc or F10 on startup)

Check if Internal Pointing Device is enabled

Let me know your laptop model if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
