Hey there! @AAToffee, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand the touchpad cursor is randomly jumping while charging the laptop.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Have you tried checking with an external mouse?

Please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned when you use the touchpad the cursor randomly jumps across the screen on your laptop.

Try the steps recommended below.

Control Panel -> Hardware & Sound -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings (of current selected plan) -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> USB Selective Suspend Setting -> Disable (both)

Control Panel -> Hardware & Sound -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings (of current selected plan) -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> PCI-Express -> Link State Power Management -> Disable (both)

Also, Try updating the BIOS, touchpad and chipset driver on your PC and check if it helps.

You can try updating the drivers using the HP support assistant.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try the steps recommended below.

In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Then click Yes.
In Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow. Make sure to include the space between sfc and the /.
Press Enter and wait while System File Checker scans for corrupted files.
When scanning is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.
If the file checker found and replaced any corrupted files, restart the computer and check the performance.
If the file checker did not find any corrupted files or found corrupted files but could not replace them, go to the next step.
If System File Checker finds corrupted files but cannot replace them, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. DISM checks the corrupted files; then downloads and replaces the files using Windows Update.
In Windows, open a web browser.
   NOTE:
You need to be connected to the Internet to use DISM.
In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Then click Yes.
In Command Prompt, type dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth. Make sure to include the space before each / in the command line.
Press Enter and wait while DISM works. This might take several minutes.
If DISM finds corrupted files, it replaces them using Windows Update. If this occurs, after DISM is finished, restart your computer and see if the performance has improved.

@AAToffee, Thanks for your prompt response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Are you using an HP genuine AC adapter?

If the computer is powered by an external power supply (PSU), the detailed construction of the PSU will influence the virtual ground effect; a touchpad may work properly with one PSU but be jerky or malfunction with another (this does not imply any electrical risk whatsoever, a delicate capacitative ground, not a contact ground, is at issue). This has been known to cause touchpad problems when a manufacturer's PSU, which will have been designed to work with the touchpad, is replaced by a different type. This effect can be checked by touching a metallic part of the computer with the other hand and see if the operation is restored. In some cases touching the (insulated) power supply with some part of the body, or using the computer on the lap instead of on a desk, while working can restore correct operation.

Hope this answers your query!

Take Care! 🙂

@AAToffee, Thanks for your response again.

The content of the message was if you use an adapter which has gone faulty or not an HP genuine adapter you can have issues using the touchpad.

I recommend you using a different adapter or an HP genuine adapter.

Hope this answers your query!

Take Care! 🙂

What's wrong with the one that came with the original packaging?

@AAToffee,

I reviewed the post. It is nice to hear from you. As @A4Apollo is out for the day I am responding on his behalf. The original adapter may be faulty.

There is more to it than meets the eye and the issue may be hardware related. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.

Thanks and have a blessed week ahead.
