any ideas? @Ub6424 I'm really just trying to figure out whether this issue is solvable, or if I have to go and buy a completely new laptop just because of a touchpad issue. 😢 It's severely hurting my work performance right now

Hello @bgehrs

(1) Get .cab driver file from Microsoft

Download here -> ELAN_Touchpad_28.12.1.1

File name is:

1fd57994-f2ca-4801-a5cc-70554ad2476c_c5344bfd8c73550e89b867edf4e760eebecf0b73.cab

(2) Unzip CAB File using 7-zip or windows explorer, a <directory> named

1fd57994-f2ca-4801-a5cc-70554ad2476c_c5344bfd8c73550e89b867edf4e760eebecf0b73

will be created. Keep in mind where the location is.

(3) Open windows <device manager>

(4) Locate touchpad device, right click <update driver>

(5) Choose to pick/browse driver file locally and navigate to <directory> that holds downloaded driver files from location of step (2)

(6) Confirm detected driver

(7) Reboot windows

To better understand what you are doing in steps ( 2 ) to ( 6 )

Here you can read and see how to update the driver locally with a driver package that contains a INF file:

  • Whenever i click on anything it just pops up and tells me that my driver is already updated. I don't know how i can find the download, there is no option for that in the files that i can choose. I saved to desktop, and then when I try to manually browse to desktop for that file, it just automatically tells me that my driver is already updated. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...sorry

Install 7-zip -> https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z2201-x64.exe

Right click on the cabinet (CAB) file to extract with conext menu > 7-zip

(1) So you extracted 1fd57994-f2ca-4801-a5cc-70554ad2476c_c5344bfd8c73550e89b867edf4e760eebecf0b73.cab

to directory

1fd57994-f2ca-4801-a5cc-70554ad2476c_c5344bfd8c73550e89b867edf4e760eebecf0b73

(2) Please rename directory

to

touchpad-new

(3) copy or move directory touchpad-new to c:\SWSetup directory

(4) Start windows <device manager> and update driver locally from directory:

c:\SWSetup\touchpad-new
