Tried system update, tried installing drivers from this website. (the two that say synaptics touchpad driver). No touchpad shows up in my device manager to even update drivers. I don't know what to do.

Also, I had typed out a nice formal long question but it would not post (page just kept reloading), so please excuse my brevity. I have been trying to fix this all day. Here is a screen shot to help clarify anything.Device manager and drivers.png

@Faith11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Do you see any touchpad entry under the Human Interface devices?

Meanwhile, I recommend you install the driver using the Windows updates and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

  1. In the Windows search box, type Check for updates, and then click Check for updates in the results list.

  2. Click one of the following options, if presented, on the Windows Update window:

    • If updates are available to download, click Install now.

      Windows Update screen with Install now selected

    • If no updates are currently listed, click Check for updates, and then click Install now if Windows detects updates.

      Update status with check for updates selected

If you continue facing the issue, please perform a system restore back to the date when the touchpad was working fine.

Follow the steps in the below article to perform a system restore.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for your help. I am still experiencing the problem. There doesn't' appear to be any touchpad under Human Interface Devices, I have attached a screen shot so you can correct me if I'm wrong. I have installed all updates and restarted today. Problem is still persisting. I did not mention in my initial question, but I did do a system restore before I attempted anything (driver installation, updates, etc.). It took at least 3 hours (which I found abnormal - I haven't done a system restore in quite some time...but I remember them only taking about 45 minutes), and the touch pad still wasn't showing up. Any further advice? Device Manager Human Interface Devices.png
