@pradip40836, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Restart Your Laptop

Sometimes, a simple restart can help clear up any temporary glitches or software issues causing the touchscreen to malfunction.

Check for Physical Interference

  • Clean the Screen: Make sure there’s no dust, moisture, or oils on the screen, which can cause false touches. Use a microfiber cloth to gently wipe the screen.
  • Remove Screen Protector (if applicable): If you're using a screen protector, it may be causing interference, so try removing it to see if the issue persists.

Disable and Re-enable the Touchscreen

  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager).
  • Locate Human Interface Devices and expand it.
  • Right-click on HID-compliant touch screen and select Disable.
  • Wait a few seconds, then right-click it again and select Enable.
  • Test the touchscreen again to see if the issue persists.

Update or Reinstall the Touchscreen Driver

Sometimes the issue might be related to outdated or corrupted drivers.

  • In Device Manager, right-click on HID-compliant touch screen under Human Interface Devices.
  • Select Update Driver and follow the prompts to search for updated drivers online.
  • If the issue still isn’t resolved, you can try Uninstalling the device from Device Manager. After that, restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Check for Malware or Background Apps

Sometimes, malware or rogue apps can cause odd behavior. Running a scan with Windows Defender or another antivirus program could help.

  • Open Windows Security by searching in the Start menu.
  • Go to Virus & Threat Protection and click on Quick Scan or Full Scan.

Check for Windows Updates

Make sure your system is up to date with the latest patches from Microsoft, as updates often fix bugs and hardware issues.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available ones.

Check Touchscreen Calibration

You may want to check the touchscreen calibration settings to see if it’s misaligned:

  • Type Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input into the Windows search bar.
  • Click on Calibrate under Tablet PC Settings, and follow the instructions to recalibrate the screen.

Test with External Monitor

If the touchscreen behavior still happens when connected to an external monitor, it’s more likely to be a software issue. If it stops, the issue might be hardware-related with the touchscreen itself.

System Restore

If the problem started recently, and you suspect it’s caused by a recent update or change, performing a System Restore can revert your system back to a point where the touchscreen was functioning properly.

Important: Please note that performing a system restore will not affect your personal files, but any apps or updates installed after the restore point will be lost. Be sure to back up important data if possible before proceeding.

  1. Type System Restore into the search bar next to the Start menu and select Create a restore point from the search results.
  2. In the System Properties window, click on System Restore under the System Protection tab.
  3. The System Restore wizard will open. Click Next.
  4. Select a restore point from the list that is dated before the touchscreen issues began. If you're unsure, choose the most recent restore point that you think is appropriate.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. The system will restart and begin restoring to the chosen point.
  6. After the restore is completed, check if the touchscreen issue has been resolved.

Reset the Laptop (Last Resort)

If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the laptop to its factory settings as a last resort. This will restore your laptop to the state it was in when you first got it, so make sure to back up your important files first.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
  • Under Reset this PC, select Get started and follow the prompts.
