Touchscreen stopped working. Device is not recognized. Happened right after plugging into a monitor for a second screen. Touchscreen is not an option in HID.

HI @TarnaskyT,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query,If your touchscreen stopped working after connecting your device to a second monitor, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
1. Restart Your Device
- Power Cycle:
- Completely shut down your device.Wait for about 30 seconds to a minute.
- Turn your device back on to see if the touchscreen functionality is restored.
2. Check for Touchscreen Drivers
Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).Expand the section labeled Human Interface Devices (HID).
- Look for HID-compliant touch screen or a similar entry.Right-click on it and select Update driver. Follow the prompts to search automatically for updated driver software.
- If updating doesn’t work, try right-clicking and selecting Uninstall device. Restart your device, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Sometimes, updates may include fixes for hardware issues.Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
3. Calibrate the Touchscreen
- Go to Control Panel (you can search for it in the Start menu).
- Click on Hardware and Sound, and then Tablet PC Settings (you might need to switch to large icons view if you don’t see it).
- Go to the Display tab and click on Calibrate to open the calibration tool.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the touchscreen.
4. Check Touchscreen Settings
- Sometimes the touchscreen might be disabled.
- Open Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices, and right-click on HID-compliant touch screen. Ensure that it is enabled.
- If the touchscreen option is missing from HID, it might be a sign of a hardware issue or that the driver is not correctly installed.
5. Test Touchscreen in BIOS/UEFI
- Restart your device and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
- Check if the touchscreen works in the BIOS/UEFI environment.
- This suggests that the issue might be related to software or driver conflicts within Windows.
6. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the Screen:
- Check for any visible damage to the touchscreen or surrounding area.
- If there is any damage, it might need professional repair.
7. Test with a Different Monitor
- Disconnect the external monitor and see if the touchscreen functionality is restored.
- If it is, reconnect the external monitor and check settings related to display and touchscreen configuration.
8. Perform a System Restore:
- If the touchscreen was working before and you have a restore point created, you can perform a system restore to revert your system back to a point where the touchscreen was functioning.
- Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore. I will be glad to help you.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
