Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I am at a bit of a loss here. I have HP Support assistant installed and all of the correct and up to date drivers are installed, including a recent BIOS update. But each time, the touchscreen will stop working. It also stops working in the HP startup menu and BIOS, so I can rule out this being a Windows 10 driver/software issue.

In fact I setup a HP recovery USB drive because I was going to restore it to factory to rule out my upgrading to Windows 10 Pro the issue, but when I entered the HP startup menu (by pressing esc constantly after booting up) the touchscreen wasn't working there either.

Instead of installing the recovery I entered the BIOS to check settings (not much to change there and all looked good) rebooted and went into HP system diagnostics (F2 option) and tested the Touchscreen, and it passed! I could touch all of the blocks away by tapping and swiping, rebooted and it is working in Windows 10 again.

However, this will be temporary.. I've been here before where the touchscreen starts working again when I disable/enable I2C HID Device and then some time later on a reboot, that device is shown with a yellow exclamation mark.

I read online somewhere that the connector in the laptop might need reseating but I can't seem to find instructions for it anywhere. Since it is now out of warranty I am willing to give that a go just to try and fix the touchscreen once and for all.

It doesn't look like a hardware failure because it is working right now, and this has been the case on and off for two years (I don't use it often) but I really want to see if I can fix it. Hoping someone can help me in the right direction.
