HP Envy 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cw1000 (8L756AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

After an in-place upgrade to repair insurmountable problems, I got my system back, but the Touchscreen doesn't work, there is no driver present, and I cannot find one to install. HP support wants me to do a factory reset, which to me is a failure on their part to solve the problem. It's a lot of work to bring a Laptop back to functionality after a complete reset.  Does Anyone know where I can find these driver(s) for the touchscreen?  My product page does not show them?  And yes, the specs say I have one, or at least I did.

@KenDerrenbacker, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding How to Update Drivers for Touchscreen on HP Envy 17.3 inch Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It can be frustrating when your touchscreen stops working after an upgrade. However, there are a few steps you can try before resorting to a factory reset.

Windows Update

First, ensure that your Windows 11 system is up to date:

  1. Connect to the Internet: Make sure your laptop is connected.
  2. Launch Windows Update:
    • Click on the Start Menu.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Click on Update & Security.
    • Select Windows Update.
    • Click Install updates.

Run Windows Update multiple times until it reports that your device is up to date.

HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant can also help in finding the necessary driver updates:

  1. Launch HP Support Assistant:
    • Click on the Start Menu.
    • Go to All Apps.
    • Scroll down to HP Help and Support.
    • Select HP Support Assistant.

Alternatively, if previously used, you can launch it from the task bar by clicking on the blue icon with the question mark.

  1. Check for Updates:
    • Once in HP Support Assistant, go to the My device section.
    • Click on Updates to check for and install available drivers.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you, but I've tried all that.  It just doesn't see the hardware.  The obstacle now is I can't find the touchscreen driver.  The HP product page also doesn't show the driver.  Does anyone know where I can download the driver and any others related to the touch screen?

@KenDerrenbacker, Thanks for following up — I can understand how frustrating this must be, especially after going through an in-place upgrade and still facing issues with something as essential as the touchscreen. You’ve clearly done a lot already, and we appreciate your patience.

Since the driver isn’t showing up in Device Manager or on the product page, here are a few quick things to try before considering a reset:

Device Manager – Open it, click View > Show hidden devices, and check under Human Interface Devices for anything like HID-compliant touch screen. If it’s there but grayed out, right-click and uninstall it, then scan for hardware changes.

Manual Driver Install – In Device Manager, right-click any HID device > Update Driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick > try selecting HID-compliant touch screen from the list, if it’s available.

HP Image Assistant – Download from HP Image Assistant. It’s great at catching missing drivers post-upgrade.

BIOS Check – Restart your laptop, enter BIOS (Esc or F10), and check if the touchscreen is enabled there. Sometimes it’s just disabled at firmware level.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
