HP ENVY Notebook 15-as050tu

When using the trackpad it often "holds" the click and will highlight and drag when I do not want it to, to make it stop I need to repeatedly click either left or right. I have checked all the settings I can find and run hardware diagnostics. The only other thing I can think of is that the trackpad may be defective and will need to be fixed. Are there any other settings I can try first?

Try these steps:

Ensure that your trackpad drivers are up-to-date. You can do this using Windows Update or HP Support Assistant.

Using Windows Update:

  1. Click on the Start Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on Update & Security.
  4. Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

Using HP Support Assistant:

  1. Open HP Support Assistant from the Start Menu.
  2. Click on My devices.
  3. Select Updates at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Install any available updates.

Adjust Touchpad Settings

  1. Click on the Start Menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Go to Devices.
  4. Click on Touchpad.
  5. Adjust the sensitivity and disable certain gestures that might be causing the issue.

Reinstall Trackpad Driver

  1. Right-click on the Start Menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click on your touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Use Device Manager for Specific Driver Updates

  1. Open Device Manager via right-clicking the Start Menu.
  2. Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  3. Right-click your touchpad device and select Update Driver Software.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

I hope this helps.
