That hardware ID:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480
is an AMD Radeon HD4650 video. It is showing up as Microsoft Basic because Windows does not have a real driver and has loaded a default placeholder driver, Microsoft Basic, which is crippled. We need to get the right driver installed in your machine.
Unfortunately you have chosen Windows 8.1 which is not well supported for your hardware. HP has posted no driver for the HD4650 graphics and to make it work you are going to have to force install a legacy driver direct from AMD.

Go to the device manager and open display adapters...what is listed? Yes it is likely you are running a generic video driver that does not activate all features of the video chip including HDMI.
Based on specs:
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01822505
your laptop has nVidia GeForce 9200M GS video
HP has not posted a Windows 8.1 driver for that video and you may need to get one direct from nVidia:

Check the device manager in general for any missing drivers such as chipset.

Hi and thank you for the reply
I opened the Device Manager and under Display Adaptors it says:
Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor
It says that I have an ATI Radeon Premium Graphics on the keyboard area on laptop if that helps....I cant seem to find anything else in the Device Manager area..
I cant seem to find my graphics card - its like it doesnt exist! Unsure of whats happened to it and what I can do to find it again...any ideas please?
Im not sure what I need to be looking for in regards to activating my HDMI port...Any help gratefully appreciated.

The answer is right there. HDMI will not work as long as you have the generic Microsoft Basic video driver installed.
The spec page says it is nVidia video, but you have an ATI sticker on the laptop and your driver page has an ATI driver listed and no nVidia.
Use this and please find the hardware ID assigned to the display adapter and we can get you the correct driver.

This will certainly get your HDMI working again.

Hi and thank you for your reply....
I found the hardware ID as requested but its for the Basic Video Driver (only one that shows up)
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480&SUBSYS_3628103C&REV_00
When I had a look, it says its all working correctly....Im so confused! But in the hardware ID section there is no nvidia listed anywhere.
Thanking you

Thank you so much for your reply.
I am on the link that you sent above...Im still unsure which one I should be downloading. I downloaded an auto detect from that site, installed it and it said
Components already installed
What does this one mean? I still have the microsoft basic driver showing up in my display drivers.
It says " setup has detected an incompatible build and will exit setup" Uh ohhh this dont look good...please help 🙂
Ive just downloaded a different driver for a 32-bit and guess what!! IT WORKS!!!
Thank you so very much for all of your help!! I really appreciate your patience and help...Have a fantastic day!
