I have a VGA monitor that I'm trying to set up as an external 2nd monitor on the laptop. I purchased a VGA - HDMI adapter that connects to the monitor VGA cable and then plugs into the laptops HDMI port. A 2nd monitor is not recognized by the laptop and I can find no Windows or HP help on troubleshooting the problem.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the VGA monitor is not getting detected on the computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
What is the product number of your computer?
Do you have 2 external monitors connected to the computer?
I would like to inform you that usually the VGA to HDMI adapters do not work and HP doesn’t recommend using adapter. However, I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
