Hello @cjmorry

I couldn't wait until the end of the day to see what happened when I turned the computer off and then on again so I tried it.

As I feared the temporary shutdown of the trackpad was undone by the shutdown and restart and the touchpad was again running alongside of the external mouse. But this time at least I discovered that the Synaptics Touchpad app was still available and when I opened it I could again disengage the touchpad.

It appears that this is intended only to be a temporary fix and not to permanently disengage the touchpad. I can live with that now that I know how to do it, but it still should be possible (and I am sure it is, if you know how) to permanently uninstall everything that makes the touchpad work if you have no intention of ever using it, as in my case.

For now, I will live with this workaround.

Hello @cjmorry

The hard and final method would be to disonnect the internal touchpad cable(s) if you are looking for adventure.

Yea, I don't think so! That solution is right up there with buying a new computer! Thanks.
