I am buying an adapter for USB-C to HDMI which requires Alt Mode. My laptop supports DisplayPort 1.2 but I don't know if it has Alt  mode. Can someone help me out?

That's true. Looks like HP has a mix up here. Its specs says it has USB-C with DP 1.2 but its Manual says  on page 2:

USB Type-C port; USB 3.1 Gen 1 (left side); supports data transfer

I believe words in the manual that means it does NOT have Alt mode.

Regards.

Does your monitor have DP connector ? Have you tried DIRECT USB-C to DP cable, no HDMI ?
