I am trying to connect a 2nd monitor to my laptop via the USBC port ( I am already using the HDMI port) I have a USBC to HDMI port connected but the monitor isnt working. I want to know if I need a different adapter or if the USBc port will never do HDMI. If I can get a USBC to HDMI adapter can anyone recommend one as they all look the same to me. From what I have read I think it needs to support DP Alt mode? Its a Pavilion Laptop 14-CE Model no. 24F19EA#ABU

Hi,
Your USB-C is
"USB Type-C port; USB 3.1 Gen 1 (right side); supports data transfer"
so it does not have DP alt mode. Most USB-C to HDMI adapters will not work as they need this to function.
You would need an adapter with DisplayLink (which is actually an external "video card")
something like this for the type A USB port
Hope it helps,
David

Hi David - Thanks for the previous advice - I also have some old surround sound speakers 5.1 with the 3 mini jack plugs - Can you suggest if there is a suitable hub I can use to plug these in - and if possible a hub that I can connect my monitors and speakers too all in one?
