I'm the OP. I gave up and backed up all my files to tried a fresh Windows 10 install. This worked. My USB monitor is now working properly.

I chose the cloud refresh (4gb dowhich installs the latest version from fresh instead of the original shipped version, still had all the Hp guff but had to update support assistant.

Took about 1.5hr to format drive and reinstall plus another 2 hr to get software installed and files copied back.

I can only conclude there isn't a hardware issue between Hp, Latest win10 and the monitor but something clearly going wrong during the update stage.

@stevegos That's great, I'm glad it worked for you, however, to be on a safer side, you may want to disable auto-updates as HP does not have all relevant drivers support for Windows 10 2004 as off now, and that could be reason these issues have occurred, unless you are already on Win10 2004 and everything is working fine! if that's true, please mark your last post as the solution as it would help others find it as well 🙂

Keep us posted.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same issue with USB-C ports not working on my Spectre after Windows 10 2004  update (build 19042.508.) Is there resolution or workaround for this? It's been a few months now...Please help.

@ershadnozari

Have you followed the steps suggested in the thread?

What is the product number of your computer?

Have you tried rolling back Windows to 1909 and checked?

Cheers!

Thanks for response.

The product number of my computer is : 5KF15PA#ABG

I have tried the following:

Option 1: The patch is over 2 years old and not compatible with my laptop.

Option 2: This computer was originally shipped with Windows 10. Following the instructions, when I run the command, I’m getting the error: Unable to access the package. Indeed, looking in the C:\Windows\WinSxS I don't have the specified package at per the instructions.

I’m afraid Option 3 is not viable as I need features (WSL2) from the 2004 Windows update which I use for work purposes.

Any further assistance that might help resolving this issue is much appreciated.

Thank you for the information.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know what the maximum supported SSD on your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

As per the service guide for your computer the maximum supported SSD on your computer is 256GB. Below are the dual hard drive configurations available for your computer.

Thanks for response.

I did manage to get BIOS updated, however this did not resolve my issue.  As for the other two patches (Intel & Nvidia), I couldn't install them as I was getting an "unsupported OS version" error. As such, my issue remains 😞

Any further assistance that might help resolving this issue is much appreciated.

By the way, I'm not following your response addressing the maximum supported SSD, as I didn't ask a question in that regard. I believe your reply is aimed for someone else.

Kind regards,

Hi - thanks for response.

I got got the BIOS patch installed, however it did not resolve my issue. As for the other 2 patches (Intel & Nvidia), I could not install these as I was getting an "incompatible OS" error. As such, my issue still remains 😞

By the way, I'm not following your response regarding the maximum supported SSD - I did not ask a question in relation to this. I'm assuming your reply must be aimed at someone else.

@ershadnozari Peace be unto you! I'm writing on behalf of @The_Fossette as he's away for the day,
That said, If there are no latest updates for your device, I'm afraid there are only two options,

  • You can either wait for the update to be released, while using an HDMI if available (which may take some time from what I'm told (not sure when it would be released)
  • Or, you can downgrade the windows, and disable auto updates for the time being and continue using the USB Type-C as you previously did, instead.

Regarding option 1, I believe waiting is the only thing I can do, and I’ve been waiting since May -:(. I’m already utilizing the HDMI port for another monitor and this laptop has one HDMI port only. I’m a computer programmer currently working from home  desperately in need to plug in another screen.

As for option 2, as highlighted in a earlier  response, rolling back to a previous version of windows is not viable as I’m using features in 2004 windows update, primarily WSL2.

We got a chicken and egg dilemma here.

I would love to give you guys a virtual high five, you are doing an amazing job. However, right now I’m mostly frustrated because of this COVID situation and I’m not as productive as I could be due to this problem. I truly appreciate the help though. Thank you.

I will post an update and Accept as solution once this issue has been mitigated. Meanwhile, I believe it is reasonable to have this remain open for other people experiencing the same problem.

Thanks and regards,

Ershad
