HP Zbook 15u G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I'm trying to connect my HP Zbook 15u G4 laptop to two monitors. I connected to one through the Displayport on the laptop and the HDMI on the monitor and that works fine. I attempted to connect to the other through the HDMI port on the monitor and the USB C port on the laptop using a QGeeM USB C to HDMI adapter, and . . . nothing. The computer doesn't recognize the monitor, doesn't know it's connected, nothing. It's a work laptop, so there's nothing I can do in terms of settings or drivers. Other than buying a USB C to Displayport adapter, any ideas? If the only option is to buy a USB C to Displayport adapter, will the j5create one work? Thanks to coronavirus, I can't get any other kind before the end of April.

Hello @mlk473,

I regret to inform you that the USB-C port on the HP ZBook 15u G4 Mobile Workstation is simply a USB Type-C basic port with no DisplayPort Alternate Mode support, which is required for video output.

If you would like a second monitor, you could try the D9Y32AA or D9Y32UT, which are both HP Ultraslim Docking Stations which can provide you with a plethora of ports.

Or, the more inexpensive but unreliable method would be to purchase a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter. Lots of people on the forum have reported back to me that this model works well.

Best regards,

Eddy

Thanks for this @EddyK! The parameters I'm working in are that I'm now working from home where I was never doing so before, and while my company provided the laptop, they won't pay for anything else. So I'm stuck trying to find the cheapest ways to use what I have or buy inexpensive equipment. Once this is all over, I won't be working from home anymore (it's not allowed normally), so I can't even think of the equipment as an investment (my personal laptop is a Mac, so nothing is compatible). Therefore, spending $100+ on a dock is pretty much out. Regarding USB to HDMI, both USB ports on the Zbook are currently being used for my keyboard and mouse. The only port that isn't being used besides the USB-C is the VGA port. The monitor I already own has a DVI-D +1 port, and I was hoping to find a cable that is VGA (male) to DVI-D +1 (male), but so far haven't been able to find it. If you have any suggestions, I'd love them! The monitor also has a DisplayPort and an HDMI port, so anything that's VGA (male) to one of those will work too--though all the ones I've seen assume that the monitor has the VGA and the computer the other port and say they don't work in the opposite direction.

Let me know if you have any guidance!
