HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Since my last update the brightness slider has disappeared from my toolbar and from settings. I am unable to adjust using f2 f3 as well. My screen is quite dim and I'm going blind trying to resolve it

@Hol82d, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The missing brightness slider and non-functional brightness controls on your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV) after a recent update suggest a potential graphics driver issue or power settings misconfiguration. Try the following steps to restore brightness control:

Update Display Drivers

A Windows update may have replaced your driver with a generic one. Reinstalling or updating it should fix the issue.

Method 1: Update via Device Manager

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters.
  3. Right-click on your GPU (Intel UHD Graphics or AMD Radeon).
  4. Click Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  5. Restart your laptop and check if the brightness control returns.

Method 2: Manually Install Graphics Drivers

For Intel Graphics:

  • Visit Intel's Driver & Support Assistant.
  • Download and install the latest Intel Graphics Driver.

For AMD Graphics:

  • Go to AMD’s Driver Support.
  • Select your GPU model and install the latest drivers.

Re-enable Generic Monitor

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  2. Expand Monitors.
  3. Right-click on Generic PnP Monitor and select Enable device (if disabled).
  4. Restart your laptop.

Adjust Power Plan Settings

  1. Open Control Panel (Win + R, type control, press Enter).
  2. Navigate to Power Options.
  3. Click Change plan settings for your active plan.
  4. Select Change advanced power settings.
  5. Expand Display > Enable adaptive brightness, set both On battery and Plugged in to On.
  6. Restart your laptop.

Check Windows Registry (Advanced)

If none of the above works, try this:

  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001
  • Find FeatureTestControl and double-click it.
  • Set the Value data to f048 (hexadecimal).
  • Click OK, close the Registry Editor, and restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
