Since my last update the brightness slider has disappeared from my toolbar and from settings. I am unable to adjust using f2 f3 as well. My screen is quite dim and I'm going blind trying to resolve it

@Hol82d, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The missing brightness slider and non-functional brightness controls on your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV) after a recent update suggest a potential graphics driver issue or power settings misconfiguration. Try the following steps to restore brightness control:
Update Display Drivers
A Windows update may have replaced your driver with a generic one. Reinstalling or updating it should fix the issue.
Method 1: Update via Device Manager
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click on your GPU (Intel UHD Graphics or AMD Radeon).
- Click Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart your laptop and check if the brightness control returns.
Method 2: Manually Install Graphics Drivers
For Intel Graphics:
- Visit Intel's Driver & Support Assistant.
- Download and install the latest Intel Graphics Driver.
For AMD Graphics:
- Go to AMD’s Driver Support.
- Select your GPU model and install the latest drivers.
Re-enable Generic Monitor
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Monitors.
- Right-click on Generic PnP Monitor and select Enable device (if disabled).
- Restart your laptop.
Adjust Power Plan Settings
- Open Control Panel (Win + R, type control, press Enter).
- Navigate to Power Options.
- Click Change plan settings for your active plan.
- Select Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Display > Enable adaptive brightness, set both On battery and Plugged in to On.
- Restart your laptop.
Check Windows Registry (Advanced)
If none of the above works, try this:
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001
- Find FeatureTestControl and double-click it.
- Set the Value data to f048 (hexadecimal).
- Click OK, close the Registry Editor, and restart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
