There is no option to change brightness under the battery icon.

Brightness keys are not working. And there is no option in control panel either. I HV already uninstalled display adapters  and install it but no use.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, you are unable to adjust the brightness of the computer.

 

Appreciate you trying the steps. Don’t worry, I’m here to help! To better assist you - Were there any hardware or software changes made?  

 

While you respond to that, let's try these steps to adjust the brightness -

 

1) Right click on the Start or Windows icon and open Control Panel. 
2) Click on Hardware and Sound.
3) Click on Power Options. 
4) Look for Screen Brightness located at the very bottom of the screen. 
5) Move the slider to adjust the brightness. 

 

If the issue still persists, try these steps -

 

Step 1 Hard Reset -

1) Shutdown the computer. 
2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected. 
3) Remove the Battery. 
Note - This step might not be applicable if you have a desktop or a computer that has a built-in battery.
4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds. 
5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer. 
6) Try to turn on the computer. 

 

Step 2 Re-install the display adapter -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
2) In Device Manager, expand Display Adapter. 
3) Right-click on the Display Adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.
4) Restart the computer. 

 

Also, try updating the computer - 

 

Step 3 Windows Updates troubleshooter -
Click on this link to run the Windows Updates troubleshooter.

 

Step 4 Windows Updates - 
1) In the search box, type 
and open Windows Updates. 
2) Check for updates. 
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer. 

 

Step 5 HP Support Assistant Updates - 
1) In the search box, type 
and open HP Support Assistant. 
2) Check for updates. 
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer. 

 

Step 6 System Restore -
1) Shutdown the computer. 
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears. 
3) Press F11 once for System Recovery. 
4) Choose the Keyboard Layout. 
5) Click on Troubleshoot. 
6) Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Restore. 
7) Choose a Restore point or a Restore date when the computer was working fine. 
8) Click on OK to initialize the System Restore.
