Hi @Shaqzilla
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the touchpad on your HP laptop. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Touchpad Functionality
- Make sure that the touchpad is enabled. Sometimes, there’s a function key (like Fn + a function key, often F7 or F12) that can toggle the touchpad on and off. Look for a touchpad icon on the function keys.
2. Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the touchpad is turned on. Check if the sensitivity and other settings are configured correctly.
3. Update or Roll Back Touchpad Driver
- Go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and select it).
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click on your touchpad driver and select Update driver. You can also try rolling back the driver if an update recently caused the issue.
4. Uninstall and Reinstall Touchpad Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.
5. Check for Windows Updates
- Make sure your Windows is fully updated. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
6. BIOS Settings
- Sometimes, touchpad settings can be found in the BIOS. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or Delete during startup).
- Look for touchpad settings and make sure it’s enabled.
7. Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostics. Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly to access the startup menu. Select F2 for diagnostics and run a touchpad test if available.
8. Check for Third-Party Software
- If you have any third-party software that manages touchpad settings (like Synaptics or ELAN), check those settings as well. Sometimes, these can interfere with the default drivers.
9. System Restore
- If the issue started after a specific update or change, consider performing a System Restore to a point where the touchpad was working correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
