HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba103tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi All,

I  have a new HP pAVILION X 360 - 14-BA103tu laptop.  The laptop has the following ports

  •  USB Type-C SuperSpeed port Connects a USB device, such as a cell phone, camera, activity tracker, or smartwatch, and provides high-speed data transfer. NOTE: Cables and/or adapters (purchased separately) may be required.

  •  USB 3.x SuperSpeed ports (2) Connect a USB device, such as a cell phone, camera, activity tracker, or smartwatch, and provide high-speed data transfer.
  • HDMI port Connects an optional video or audio device, such as a highdefinition television, any compatible digital or audio component, or a high-speed High-definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) device

Link to laptop manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05637250

My requirement is to be able to connect to two monitors that  will extend display.

I have tried the following and it doesnt work

- Bought an HDMI adapter that has one in and two out.  Basically connect  HDMI port in the laptop to the adaptor and connect two HDMI cables from the adapters to two montors.

Only one monitor works, other one doesnt

- Bought HDMI splitter and that displays the same image on both the extrnal monitors,  but doesnt allow extendable display

Since i was unable to make it work with the HDMI port, I attempted to use the USB Type C port  with the below option.

- Bought Type C to HDMI apadaptor and connect one monitor to see if it works- it doesnt work.  There is no display on the external monitor.

Help Please !

Here's the explanation which is not going to be happily received. Your usb-c port carries no video signal so it is going to be pretty useless for having a secondary monitor. The HDMI port displays one signal so drives one monitor. Your only way to have more than the laptop screen plus one external screen attached to the HDMI port is with a USB-3.0 port replicator/docking station. USB 3.0 does not natively carry video but some docks and port replicators use a driver which allows the device to be an external video card and Windows will see it as another monitor that will allow extension of the desktop so you wind up with more than 2 desktops. The desktop will not be good for gaming and might even stutter a bit with youtubes but will work fine as a place to park your email app or an Excel spreadsheet.

Like this but there are many more like this:

Hi Huffer,

Just a quick query to make sure i have understood your response correctly.

If i get the docking station:

- I can connect one monitor through the docking station

- connect the second monitor  from the Laptops HDMI port

By doing as above, can i get an extendable display?

Regards

Yes it should work that way.

That appears to be "no driver needed" device in relation to the video functionality, which strongly suggests that the HDMI port will only work on devices with DisplayPort alternate mode support over USB-C. Your experiences and Huffer's post indicates your laptop doesn't have DisplayPort alternate mode support on its USB-C port.

You need to look for a device that has driver-based USB video support. The most common are devices using DisplayLink technology - there is a directory of DisplayLink enabled products on the web.
