HP Envy x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-fa-0000 (8Z8P5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

After reading a number of discussion from the official HP Community forum, I got confirmed that MPP 2.0 will be compatible with my laptop. So I bought one recently, but sadly the stylus tip is not registering any touch input but the stylus top button is just working fine like single click, double click and long press.

Stylus : HP 3J123AA Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen
Laptop : HP envy x360 2-in-1 14-fa0002sa

I tried connecting disconnecting multiple times and updating touch input driving etc but nothing worked so far. I tried downloading the HP Pen Control app from windows store but it says the software is not compatible with my device.

Eager to know where's the problem happening actually? Any sort of troubleshooting? Anyone mind to help me! Need solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @SaifLeo

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details and for already trying several steps. I understand how disappointing it must feel when the stylus tip doesn’t respond, even though the top button works.

Let’s walk through a focused set of steps to help restore full pen functionality.

What we know so far

  • Your HP Envy x360 14-fa0002sa supports MPP 2.0, and the HP 3J123AA Tilt Pen is designed for that protocol.
  • The top button works, which confirms Bluetooth pairing is functional.
  • The pen tip doesn’t register input, which suggests an issue with digitizer communication—not Bluetooth.
  • You’ve already tried reconnecting, updating drivers, and installing HP Pen Control, which didn’t work.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

1. Confirm Windows Ink Workspace is enabled

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink
  • Ensure “Show recommended app suggestions” and “Ignore touch input when using my pen” are enabled
  • Try writing in OneNote or Whiteboard to test input

2. Check HID-compliant pen driver

  • Press Windows + X, select Device Manager
  • Expand Human Interface Devices
  • Look for HID-compliant pen
    • If missing: Right-click and select Scan for hardware changes
    • If present: Right-click > Uninstall device, then restart your PC
  • This resets the digitizer interface

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Shut down the laptop
  • Press Power + Esc, then tap F2 to enter diagnostics
  • Select Component Tests > Touch Screen
  • Run the test and note if the digitizer responds to finger or pen input

4. Update BIOS and system drivers manually

5. Test the pen on another MPP 2.0-compatible device (if available)

  • This helps confirm whether the pen hardware is functioning properly

If the pen still doesn’t register after these steps, we can explore digitizer calibration or further isolate whether the issue lies with the pen hardware or the screen’s touch layer.

Let me know how the system responds—we’ll keep working toward a solution.

The issue with the stylus tip not registering input is likely related to drivers or firmware specific to your laptop model. Ensure that all BIOS and chipset updates from HP are installed and verify the pen settings in Windows under ‘Pen & Windows Ink.’ If the problem continues, contact HP support to explore a possible replacement or further troubleshooting.
