Microsoft Windows 11

We have an IT Suite  with a docking station connecting to a  laptop. Both the laptop and monitor have built-in cameras. We are  unable to get the Camera on the monitor to be recognized in Apps like Teams and Zoom. It  only acknowledges the laptop camera and we get  blackness, as the laptop is closed. How can we get the computer to acknowledge the monitor's camera?

@Des681, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Camera Recognition Issues for Monitor Webcam!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To resolve issues where your monitor's built-in camera is not recognized, follow these steps to ensure proper setup and functionality:

1. Verify Physical Connections

  • Ensure the monitor is properly connected to the laptop via the docking station.
  • Double-check the USB connections as the monitor’s camera likely needs a USB connection to be recognized.

2. Configure Camera Settings in the Monitor

  • Poly Studio P21: This monitor includes a built-in camera with a privacy shutter that can be manually opened or closed. Ensure the shutter is open. (Poly Studio P21 User Guide)
  • Use the Poly Lens Desktop app to manage settings.

3. Set Camera Defaults in Conferencing Apps

  • Open your conferencing application (Teams, Zoom):
    • Microsoft Teams:
      • Go to Settings -> Devices.
      • Select your Poly Studio P21 monitor's camera as the default camera.
    • Zoom:
      • Go to Settings -> Video.
      • Select your Poly Studio P21 monitor's camera as the default camera.

4. Verify and Update Drivers

  • Check if the necessary drivers for the monitor's camera are installed and up to date.
  • Install DisplayLink drivers if using Poly Studio P21 (available on Poly website).

5. Check Webcam Preference in Windows

  • Open Windows Settings -> Devices -> Cameras.
  • Ensure the monitor camera is selected as the default camera.

6. Restart and Test

  • After making changes, restart your computer.
  • Test the camera again in the conferencing apps ensuring the laptop lid is open temporarily to verify the camera switching.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks.. yes we found a cable that came with the monitors. That has worked. My Line Manager was insisting that we could do it without a cable and that was causing me the issue. I did update drivers and firmware on the laptop and with the cable updated the firmware on the monitor.

Thanks for replying
