Looking for an update to the Intel HD Graphics 620 driver for my laptop. The version I have is the one the computer came with (4/25/2018.) HP doesn't provide one. Having screen flickering on my 2nd monitor. It's sporadic. Suspect it started during the last Windows 10 update but not sure. The Intel assistant tells me it's an HP-specific version of this driver so I can't use Intel's. Dell offers a more recent version but I don't want to break my machine. Why do computer manufacturer versions of a video driver exist? I've played with the refresh rate on 2nd monitor going from 60 to 100 Hz. No joy. Any ideas short of reimaging my machine?

I brought my laptop in for service and right away they noticed the bulge in the cabinet where the battery is swelling up, right by the HDMI port. The motherboard is probably bent, they said. That would explain the problem! I never noticed it. The laptop sat on a cradle to hold the screen level with the plug-in monitor and I used a plug-in KB, so I never looked at the cabinet. Bought a replacement Lenovo laptop for $400 today and yes, it can run Windows 11. Amazing. LOL

Hi:
If your notebook only has the onboard Intel graphics, you should be able to use the latest driver directly from the Intel website:
Intel® 7th-10th Gen Processor Graphics - Windows*
Before attempting to install the driver, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.

Hi Paul. Sorry, no joy.
Here's the text in the error log:
2024/03/11 11:52:15.184|INFO|Checking legacy 4ID to DCH 2ID protection. ||
2024/03/11 11:52:15.184|ERROR|At least on one device is attempt to install 2ID DCH driver on 4ID legacy driver. Device name = "Intel(R) HD Graphics 620". ||
So there appears to be some type mismatch that kills the install. Should I uninstall the existing driver first?

Hi:
The only way I can think of why you would be getting that error is if your notebook is one of the models that come with the Intel/Nvidia switchable graphics adapters.
As I had indicated in my first reply, you can only update the Intel graphics driver if your notebook only has the onboard Intel graphics adapter.
Otherwise, you are limited to only using the drivers on the support page.

How would I know? I see no mention of Nvidia anywhere in the file info. I have an HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-bp0xx. Model 8313. Version 32.25. Surely in the vast HP archives there is a build spec for this exact model.
I notice that the flickering increases in frequency at times then "calms down." I've owned this computer for 6 yrs and the flickering only started recently, within the last couple of months. I suspect a Windows update may have caused the problem. I hadn't done a software install for a long time previous. I'm running a new Acer as monitor #2, but it flickered with the older HP monitor. I replaced monitors thinking that was the problem. The laptop screen doesn't flicker.
Two final questions, please:
1. Will uninstalling the existing HP Intel driver help or just throw me to the darkside?
2. Why hasn't HP updated the video driver? (They updated the BIOS in 2022.) Can we request an update?
Anything you can suggest appreciated. It's unacceptable to continue as is. I need two monitors.
Here are the existing 620 driver locations. Again, no mention of anything Nvidia. Sorry it's so small.

This is a peer-to-peer forum.
We do not work for or represent HP, so I cannot answer any questions regarding HP releasing new drivers and whatnot.
Go to the device manager.
Click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.
Do you only see an Intel HD graphics adapter listed there, or do you see two graphics adapters listed there?
Intel HD graphics
Nvidia GeForce MX150
If you see a Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU listed along with the Intel graphics adapter, you will not be able to update the graphics driver.
If there is only an Intel graphics adapter, see if this works to update the driver:
Install the free 7-zip file utility. The first file listed at the top of the page is for 64 bit:
Download and save the Intel graphics driver I posted if you have deleted it, or if you still have the file, right click on it and select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name.
Then go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
Click on Have Disk and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.
Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.
When the installation is finished, restart the PC.
To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.
Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there. Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.
Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.
Then restart the PC.

I only had the Intel driver and the update worked. All was well yesterday but the problem is back today in full bloom. Who knows what's causing it at this point. The movement of celestial bodies. The number 8. Maybe the next Windows update (today) will "unbreak" it. When something breaks, it's always a good bet to suspect Microsoft. Thanks for the help. We can close this issue.
