Hi everyone, I’m checking whether it’s possible to upgrade the display panel on this laptop model. I’ve handled similar devices for my ..  but I’m not fully sure about the compatibility requirements for this specific unit.

If anyone can confirm whether a higher‑resolution panel is supported and what the correct part number or cable type would be, I’d appreciate the guidance.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Premiumfrag,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Upgrading a laptop display panel is one of those changes that looks simple but carries a lot of hidden risks. Even if the connector fits, the motherboard and BIOS may not support the higher‑resolution panel, and mismatched cables or EDID data can leave you with a blank screen or even damage the system. HP also doesn’t validate or warranty display upgrades, so attempting it can void your coverage.

Here are the main warnings to keep in mind:

Connector mismatch: FHD panels often use 30‑pin eDP, while 4K/OLED panels require 40‑pin.

Cable requirements: Higher‑resolution panels usually need a different cable assembly.

BIOS validation: HP BIOS checks panel IDs; unsupported panels may not initialize.

Power differences: OLED vs LCD panels draw power differently,  installing the wrong type can damage the board.

Warranty impact: Any non‑HP‑approved modification can void your warranty.

Because of these risks, the safest path is to have an HP Authorized Service Center check compatibility for your exact product number. They can confirm whether a higher‑resolution panel is supported and provide the correct part number and cable if it is.
