HP Pavilion DV6000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am the original owner of my HP Pavilion Entertainment PC DV6000 that is running Windows 10. My Processor is an AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK - 53 1.70 GHz with 4.00 GB of RAM. The system type is a 32-bit Operating System with an x64-based processor.  I have had this computer for years and let it sit on the side since the Windows 7 bogged it down. I was able to upgrade to Windows 10 and noticed that I do not have the drivers for the NVIDIA Graphics card to set up a second display.  Is there a driver update I can download to set this up?

Thanks

Hi:

See if this works for you...

Download and run this Vista graphics driver.  You will most likely get an unsupported operating system error.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35686.exe

Close out of any error windows.

Go to the device manager.  Click to expand the Display adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic display adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for drivers option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp35686.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC and see if you can connect to an external monitor.

Hi:

HP only had Vista drivers for the dv6000 model series.

Your only option would be to manually install the Vista graphics driver and hope that it gets the external display to work.

Before I can give you the driver you need and the instructions to manually install it, please post the product number of your dv6K.

Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

Paul,

So far so good on the installation process with no hiccups except for my screen went completely red. But discovered that it was the night mode actually working after installing the driver and I turned the night mode off. Also, my screen is brighter. Will have to connect to an external monitor later today and let you know if it worked. Crossing my fingers on this.  I hope this also fixes the DVD lag issue when playing DVDs. What are your recommendations for a player since HP does not support quickplay for my PC?

Thanks

John

You're very welcome, John.

See if the HP DVD software that I have on my Skydrive folder works on your model.

I have shared the link below.  You want the zip file labeled DVD8SE.zip.

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApMb5dJXSS-Dggen6t_Lt2eggvfZ?e=3MW0aK

Download, unzip and run the file.   I use this software on my very old HP notebooks (ca 2006-2008) running W10.

For some reason the newer HP DVD software I have will not work on the old models.

I think this is for W7, but it works fine on W10.

You can also use the free VLC software from the Windows Store, but I like the old HP software better.

Paul,

You are the "man" on this issue I had. Everything is back to normal and I was able to extend my screen. Much appreciated on the Vista drivers for NVIDIA as I could not find it.  As for the HP DVD software, I will give that a try also and I agree, I too like the HP version since it has a smoother interface.  One more thing, with the VISTA driver, installed, do you think this will also solve the issue when I use Google Duo video app? The video works but I usually get static from my mic and it on the other end?

Thanks

John

Anytime, John.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Unfortunately, I don't know what apps are going to work on your PC.

Hopefully, that driver will have cured all the issues you were having.

That's alright, I pretty much got it back to the way it was with your help. Tried the DVD and the only issue I have now is "Playback stopped, Copy Protection Detected.

Thanks

John
