HP Envy x360 15-u111dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am getting a Blank screen or sometimes vertical lines on the right side portion of my screen. Just the 1/4 part of the right side are becoming blank or gets the vertical lines at times. Even before booting-up (POST) or just right after i press ON the power, the right side becomes blank already. Could it be the a Screen issue? BIOS just got updated, Win 10 64bit, Drivers are all upto date, HP Support assistant made all the updates, Windows aupdates are all done too, did the hard reset several times, but still getting the issue.  Whenever I move the screen up and down, it gets back to normal. But still intermittently getting the issue. When it gets back to normal, no dead pixels or even a mark of line is showing up on the right side of the screen. Sometimes even if im not moving the screen and while im in the middle of something, the issue goes back again. So I have to move the screen again to get it back to normal

Hi,

There are basically two possible causes, the display cable or the actual display panel having problems. If you bring to a shop you couls have them test the display and see if it is defective.

You could also try reinserting the lcd cable on back of screen and see if it fixes the problem. You can tape it once inserted to keep it firm.  On page 56 of service manual you can see the steps to get to the display cable.

You can see that it is not software related by attaching the PC to an external monito/TV with a HDMI cable and I am quite sure that the lines will never be visible on external monitor.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi David,

Appreciate the reply. Yes you are correct that wheneve I plugged it on a external monitor, the issue is not showing up at all. I will try your suggestion first before I consider buying and replacing it with a new LCD Display. Will update you soon. I hope its just the cable so I dont have to spend money for the replacement LCD.

I tried opening the LCD panel to check the cable at the back. Im not sure if which one i have to remove or reattahed. Pictures are below. Which one? The one at the back of the sceeen seems to be properly intact with the tape on it. I think its properly attached. I havent noticed any loose connection. I didnt touched it yet. But should i still have to try removing it and attach it back?

Coz the issue still occur even aftr i remove the lcd cable connecting the laptop's mother board and LCD, then put it pack.
