Can we please get an official response? I paid a lot of money for this laptop.

I am once again humbly asking for an official response

Hello everybody,

Just a final update on this issue, my laptop was repaired by the shop that sold it to me in France, NOT BY HP.  HP support did not help, HP repair did not help

The motherboard had to be replaced.

I am very disappointed in HP for lack of quality control and support, this is the last HP computer I will every buy.

Support was only available during work hours so I had to take time off from work to get help.

I had to contact them on three different chats to get one answer.

The case number was not consistent between support agents and made communication difficult.

Repair changed the hard drive but did not test (using the excuse of password protection, on a new hardrive with a new OS....)

Laptop was not sent back in original box which it was sent in

Support on forum was delayed and often about a different problem (even completely different laptops)

Problem was never solved by HP

@Martouel Thank you for updating us. When you got your motherboard replaced, do you know which board they replaced it with? Was it one of the same model, or a different one? I'm interested because if that solved your issue I might get mine replaced too.

For anyone else with the issue, the temporary fix I've been using is making use of the open source software known as RyzenAdj.

You can find it on GitHub here https://github.com/FlyGoat/RyzenAdj

If you intend to try this, please read the GitHub page carefully. It may be possible to damage your hardware with certain settings.

To avoid the CPU drawing more power than the board can output which throttles it to hell, I use these settings:

ryzenadj --tctl-temp=95 --slow-limit=45000 --fast-limit=70000

Out of interest sake, here are the default values of these settings when my machine is plugged into a charger.

ryzenadj --tctl-temp=100 --slow-limit=94000 --fast-limit=100000

I'm not sure why they are so high by default when it leads to overdrawing from the board, which causes it to be throttled into oblivion. It might be possible to ease the limit a little more than I have for more performance, but these settings worked best and were the most stable for me.

Again I would like to ask for an official response. If limiting the CPU power to something lower than the insane defaults is all it takes to fix the issue, then I'm sure that the issue could be addressed through a BIOS update. Please HP, take this issue seriously and talk to us.

It started again two days ago...

Just to summarize again everything that happened:

Here is the list of everything that happenend:

  • I asked for help on this page, answers were never helping and sometimes about another laptop entirely
  • I tried to get help from HP support, but it is not available during the week end or outside of work hours, so I had to use personnal days to get to someone.
  • Answers on chat support is difficult, I had to open three different chats on facebook and whatsapp to answer in a timely manner.
  • Everything was tried software wise: unstalling latest drivers from HP, installing latest drivers from AMD, uninstalling and reinstalling everything, factory reset of the computer, nothing worked
  • Finally, after another personal from work, HP accepted that my laptop had to be sent to repair. Case number was inconsistent and changed a few times without my knowledge during the process.
  • Laptop was sent with original box and was not return in it after repair.
  • Repair changed the hard drive without testing because they were "confident" it would work. The reason for not testing was that the laptop was password protected. To be clear, the system hard drive was changed, the laptop was not protected by a password anymore, this was not a valid reason for not testing.
  • Laptop was returned but framerate drops still happened.
  • I brought my laptop to the shop that sold it, everything went fluently, they changed the motherboard and finally the framerate drops disappeard.
  • One month later, the framerate drops are back.

My laptop is still under warranty. However you should understand that with support that is very difficult to reach, repair that doesn't test or solve the problem, and community that never answers, this is not really a warranty, only false advertisement.

Contact HP Support: Reach out to HP's customer support as soon as possible. Clearly explain the issue you're facing and emphasize that it's a gaming laptop with specific hardware components. Ensure that they understand your laptop's configuration. Provide Details: Mention that the BIOS and GPU drivers are up to date, and you've already performed a clean uninstall and reinstall using the AMD cleanup tool. This information can help support staff narrow down the possible causes. Request Off-Hours Assistance: As you mentioned, it can be challenging to troubleshoot during work hours. Ask HP Support if they can provide assistance or guidance outside of regular work hours. Document the Issue: Take note of any error messages, performance metrics, or system logs related to the stuttering issue. This information can be valuable for support technicians to diagnose the problem. Testing and Isolation: If possible, try to isolate the issue further. Test the laptop with different games and settings to see if the problem persists across all scenarios. This can help pinpoint whether it's a hardware or software-related issue. Consider Warranty or Replacement: If the issue remains unresolved, inquire about the laptop's warranty status and the possibility of a replacement or repair if the problem is hardware-related.

The changelog makes no mention of it, so I doubt it. Although I haven't actually tested it myself yet. Could someone who's tested it let us know?
Changelog:

    Fix and enhancements:

        - Provides the 2023.2 security enhancement.
