I understand your HP 15s-du2002tu laptop is experiencing two issues: videos keep auto-playing and pausing across apps, and you are unable to select text properly using both the touchpad and an external mouse. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot both problems.
1. Check for Background Processes / CPU Usage
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Look for processes consuming high CPU, memory, or disk usage.
Close unnecessary applications or browser tabs.
High system load can cause videos to stutter and affect input devices.
2. Update Graphics Drivers
Go to Device Manager → Display adapters → Intel or AMD graphics.
Right-click → Update driver → Search automatically.
Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause video playback issues.
3. Check Windows Updates
Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
Install all pending updates and restart the laptop.
4. Check Video Playback Apps
Try playing videos in a different browser (if using YouTube) or a standalone media player.
Disable hardware acceleration in the browser:
Chrome/Edge → Settings → System → Turn off Use hardware acceleration when available → Restart browser.
5. Test Touchpad & Mouse Functionality
For touchpad: Settings → Devices → Touchpad → Ensure it’s enabled.
For external mouse: try a different USB port.
Update or reinstall the touchpad driver (Synaptics/ELAN/HID) and mouse drivers via Device Manager.
6. Check for Malware / Corrupt Files
Run a full scan using Windows Security → Virus & Threat Protection → Full Scan.
Malware or background processes can cause both input lag and video playback issues.
7. Perform a System File Check
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:
sfc /scannow
This checks and repairs any corrupted system files that may affect video playback and device input.
8. Optional: Test in Clean Boot
Press Windows + R → msconfig → Services → Hide all Microsoft services → Disable all → Startup → Open Task Manager → Disable all startup items → Restart.
This helps determine if a background app is causing the issue.
I hope this helps.
