HP ENVY 15-as050tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP ENVY 15 laptop that is just over 2 years old. Model -Envy 15as050tu.

Have just noticed when closing the screen down onto the keyboard area there is approx 5mm gap in the middle along the front edge.

When looking across the front edge of the base it has a decent warp in base.

The laptop is in excellent condition, never been dropped or damaged.

Other than sitting on my lap when used it is always stored on a flat desk.

I am a bit concerned it will get worse over time and possibly cause other issues.

When you spend $2500.00 AUD you would expect pretty good quality. A bit dissapointed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Um, Ya they aren't intended to be sat on and honestly, I have no idea how you could use it while sitting on it.

I find a pillow is lot more comfortable on my tushey than a laptop is.

But seriously...

I dont know any other reason for it to be warped without heavy weight sitting on it at some point.

Are the hinges really really stiff when opening it maybe?

If its working though, there should be no problems I can think of. Just dont sit on it anymore.

Yes those PC prices are outrageous in Aus.

Hi Photoray002,

If you read it properly it says ( other than sitting on my lap ) not me sitting on it!

Should have put (laptop positioned on my lap.)

Not sure if the base on these are alloy or silver painted plastic.

Anyway should not bend the way it has.

Sorry, just my warped sense of humor.

No it shouldnt bend and I have not heard of anyone else having this issue.

Only thing I can think of would be something heavy resting on it at some point.

The chasis is metal and could be why it is retaining that bent formation.

All good mate.

The strange thing is it has never have any weight put on it.

If this thing bends with no weight on it, i would hate to sit on it!

The span across my legs must be too wide!

If you feel handy enough to open it up and take a look inside, here is the manual explaining the procedure.

Looking at the images of the manual, the battery sits where you describe. I think there would some thin metal reinforment along the egde also.

You could pop it open, remove the battery and perhaps get a better look at whats bent. Maybe you can bend it back (carefully).

Link to manual...

Thats about the best I can do for ya.

Well, you're hearing it now.  I have an HP Pavilion 15-Z and noticed some time ago when away from my HO that the lid didn't close all the way.  I'm like, WTH?  99% of the time it's closed on my desk and connected to my docking station and 23" monitor with full size keyboard, mouse, etc.  So I'm at the library today and looking at this absolutely swollen keyboard and system base.  Reminds me of something like those weird keyboards that are all wavy gravy .. :).  Anyway, this should not be happening and HP should replace this unit even though it's past warranty.  It's too bizarre and obviously an engineering defect in the highest degree.  To have a laptop that can't even close anymore because it's bloating like some kind of science fiction scenario is too problematic to ignore!
