HP Pavilion Laptop 14-bf0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear members of the HP forum,

I would highly appreciate your help with the following problem:

I try to connect my new HP laptop   (Pavilion Laptop 14-bf0xx) to Sony smart TV (Sony KD-49XD8099), it connects but screen is "frozen" - it shows my desktop background on TV but with no program icons and doesn't reflect any activity on my laptop display (opening and/or closing programs).

Any suggestions on how to fix that would be highly welcome.

Many thanks

Velant

@Velant

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, you're trying to connect your Notebook to a Wireless display,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: https://hp.care/2aSlUnS

(Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Are you using a Miracast feature?

Was it working fine earlier?

Only selected products support Miracast features. You could refer to the User Guide (Page number: 28): https://hp.care/2KsQLol.

Once I have the information, I will help you further 🙂

Keep me posted,

Have a great day 🙂

Hi Flower_Bud,

thank you for your response.

Let me answer your questions:

1) Product number of my HP laptop: 1UR77EA#ABU

2) Are you using a Miracast feature?

Yes indeed I use it - I click "connect" from Acition Centre (Windows 10 Home) - then select my TV (Sony KD-49XD8099) from the list and press "Connect" button.  My TV displays usual connection messages and finally "connects" - but screen is "frozen" - only my desktop Backround is seen, no activity on my laptop (opening/closing programs, browser or notepad, e.g.) is reflected on the TV screen.

3) Was it working fine earlier?

It worked and works fine with two of my other tablets (e.g., Samsung Galaxy Tab A ), but It never worked with this new HP laptop which I  bought a week ago from John Lewis - hence I posted this problem here.

4) Only selected products support Miracast features.

My TV definitely SUPPORTS Mirocast - as I said I successfully use it as Wireless display with two of my tablets.

Look forward for your suggestions to fix the problem.

Thanks a lot

Velant

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

As per specification of your notebook https://hp.care/2I34YtY, it does not have Wireless display card, therefore it will not support this feature.

If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us,

Have a great day 🙂

Hm... but on this page  it says

Check whether your computer supports Miracast

  • Windows 10 pre-installed. If your computer came with Windows 10 installed, it supports Miracast.

My laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Doesn't "supports Miracast" automatically means Wireless display card installed?

If not - what's the difference? Please explain

Thank you

@Velant

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I did research on this issue and found out that your computer does support the Miracast feature. This could be just the driver issue between TV and PC, therefore, I request you update these drivers on your PC: BIOS, chipset, wireless and Graphics drivers from the link: https://hp.care/2JM8gPg.

If possible try connecting to another TV and check the same.

You can set up a DLNA server and project the display from the notebook to TV. Check these link:

Let me know,

Good Luck 🙂

1) DRIVERS UPDATE

I certainly updated BIOS through HP Support Assistant interface pre-installed on my laptop. I did all other updates required at that time. Now I opened and trying to install two more recommended updates:

- HP Image enhancement for system logon

- HP comsumer Desktop/Notebook PC ME firmware update

I'm going in circles with the above two - at the end it requires computer restart which I've already done twice - but those two updates still have red exclamation signs next to them - meaning they were not updated yet. Anyway, I'll keep on trying and report back final result here.

With regard to the driver update link you provided - when I go there and select my operation system &version  (Windows 10 & 64bit) it says:

We were unable to retrieve the list of drivers for your product.  Please select the desired operating system and select “Update” to try again.

And that repeats endlessly so I am unable to see any drivers to install.

2. Trying another TV

If possible try connecting to another TV and check the same.

I've tried connecting the HP laptop to my other TV (Samsung Series 5 F5550) which definetly supports MIracast and to which I am able to connect wirelessly using my Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet.

However, when I try to connect this HP laptop to the Samsung TV, HP laptop says "Connected", while Samsung TV says on black screen "This video data is not supported".

3. Setting up a DLNA server

You can set up a DLNA server and project the display from the notebook to TV.

I haven't tried this yet, will try later. But in the meantime, please comment on my replies to 1 and 2 above and possibly suggest more steps to try.

Thank you

@Velant

Thank you for responding,

You can ignore installation of those two drivers since it is not required.

Since you have tried an alternate TV and it did not work, I suggest you try DLNA server,
