When I got this laptop, the camera worked fine. Later, it stopped. Factory reset is not a great option, and OS rollback not available. So I get an external camera and limp along. One day, I tried it for fun, and low and behold, the built in camera was working. For about 2 weeks, and it stopped again. The light comes on. I updated all of Windows and all of HP's tools. I ran the HP Windows and UEFI diagnostics. All OK. Device manager says my driver is OK and up to date.
When I run the Camera app that comes with windows, the camera light comes on, but I get 'static' in the preview window for photo and video. I get the same on Skype, Zoom, etc. So it's there, it's on, it's connected, it's just not showing video. I have no malware or anti-virus or firewall blocking it. I have granted access to all apps to use it. I've exhausted all options EXCEPT: Is there an official HP driver for it? Because Windows wants to use these:
