Okay thanks for the info and help. I'll be contacting them soon. Did they give you a time frame of when to return the pen? or can you wait until you order and receive the new pen to return your old one? Asking because I need some sort of pen to use in the meantime, can't really go without one.

So technically, we saved $10 because they were supposed to charge 30 for the tilt pen but we paid 20? lol

The return time frame was immediate, so I had the same concern that I want to keep using the pen until replacement is ready. Unfortunately I missed the call from support person today and he left voice message that he will be contacting me on Monday again. I will voice my concern and will update you here.

I will also ask if he can now just order replacement for me instead of gift card which is a hassle especially given the HP Tilt Pen stand alone is out of stock from HP.com and everywhere else, it seems. Not sure what the reason is.

@csin_86

Here is update for you.

So today I got a call from HP support person and he said that I don't have to return the HP Pen. He still cannot order replacement from his system, so I will still be getting gift card and I have to wait until HP Tilt Pen becomes available to order.

Update.

HP.com still do not have HP Tilt Pen on stock. Best Buy now has it on stock, but the gift card I received cannot be used there, sadly.

Interestingly HP Part Store now has it. The part number is 929863-001. And again HP's confusing naming goes on there and it is calling it as "Impreza Pen Ash Silver HP".

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=B1616A43A87547A38C72509421C08929&SearchIn=P...=

The price listed there is $174 which is ridiculous. I will be contacting HP support again to get me the part instead of useless gift card.

I am not sure why a customer have to go through this long circle just to get the correct pen shipped.

Thanks for the updates. I've been busy so I haven't been able to contact them but I should be able to contact them tomorrow and I'll update you on my experience as well.

So here's my update. I contacted HP via chat and explained the issue and referenced this forum. They said they would get back to me in 1-2 days but never did. So I contacted them again via online chat and since the tilt pen was still out of stock they offered to refund me $100 back to my paypal account  so that I can take that money and purchase the HP tilt pen once it comes back in stock (or from somewhere else like Bestbuy). Now for some odd reason  after I agreed with that the person I was chatting to tried to process it and said they actually could not process that and could only refund me $95, so I said sure that's fine.  They also let me keep the standard HP pen that I currently have as a "gift for my troubles".

PayPal option is definitely better. I am stuck with $100 gift card for HP.com which is useless because the pen is out of stock. I saw one available and ordered three times, but they canceled it without any explanation. So I am guessing that was error too.

I will check them to see if they can just give me PayPal credit instead of useless HP.com gift card.

Yeah I would reference this forum too and let them know that's how the issue was resolved for me. Like I said apparently the max they can refund you is $95 apparently but at least it won't  be a useless $95 like the gift card.

Also I know this is a bit off topic, but does your spectre run hot and the fans run continuously while using it with the charger plugged in?

Could they give you a separate $5 credit so that you get the $100 they said they’d refund you? Technically, it’s 5 and $95, not $100!

That's a good idea actually, I might contact them again not sure. But it's just $5 difference so I might just take the hit. I am still waiting for that refund to come through so I'll update again here if it goes through properly. I never received a confirmation email or anything about the refund after chatting with the representative so I'm not sure what's going on.

What a nightmare of a time i've had attempting to get the appropriate Stylus for my Spectre x360 15, unbelievable.  I won't bore you with the gorey details, but Support has been a truly unfortunate experience to have to deal with.  The person who finally helped me RMA the incorrect pen i attempted to buy after not receiving a Stylus with my machine, apparently the Tilt is what everyone is raving about, beyond the $60 version of the basic HP Pen?  (I believe these are my only two options with the version of SPectre i picked up from Best Buy.

Wasn't trying to get an advanced degree in HP naming schemes, but here goes.  It is my understanding that this will work with my laptop: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-pen but i should get the aformentioned Tilt Pen, is that correct?  http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-tilt-pen-p-2my21aa-abl-1#

Does anyone see any potential compatibility issues here?  I have an HP Spectre x360 - 15-bl112dx from Best Buy.

Thank you for sharing your expertise.  The community support is vastly superior to my multiple attempts with paid HP Support staff.  How unfortunate.

"HP Pen" and "HP Tilt Pen" are both based on Microsoft Ink technology (formerly called N-Trig technology). Both should work for your laptop. In fact, any other Microsoft Ink pen will work. For example, Surface pen should work too.

Both are active pen as such they require battery. "HP Pen" requires AAAA battery while "HP Tilt Pen" has rechargable battery charged via USB-C connector.

[HP Pen] http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-pen

[HP Tilt Pen] http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-tilt-pen-p-2my21aa-abl-1

Here is a bit of review for both pens:

I found no application that I use so far support "tilt" operation. So in practice "tilt" functionality doesn't really matter to most people. HP Tilt Pen slightly more precise compared to HP Pen.

Tilt pen's battery life is ok but not great. You will constantly need to charge it. Initially I thought rechargable batter would be great, but now I wouldn't call HP Pen requiring AAAA necessarily a disadvantage despite of the fact AAAA battery is hard to find from local store.

Other advantage of HP Tilt Pen is that it support bluetooth pairing and allows you to use the pen as presentation pointer (air pointer) and also the top button can be customized.
