I have tried going through settings & control panel to uninstall the elan touchpad drivers, the touchpad, & both; I have gone into the registry to do the suggested edits. I have rebooted every time. I went into the start menu & saw the elan touchpad app & went into it - "disable when usb mouse is plugged in" (not an exact quote) was already checked, but I clicked apply & OK. i AM SIGNED INTO THE ADMIN ACCOUNT FOR ALL OF THIS. Every.Single.Time.I.Rebooted...NOTHING. The blasted POS keeps reinstalling itself. Initially I had tried just decreasing the sensitivity - there is NO difference whatsoever between high & low sensitivity.
The blasted Elan touchpad IS STILL ACTIVE EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I AM BEGINNING TO SINCERELY HATE ELAN, MICROSOFT, & HP.
I keep up with every update...even the voluntary ones. I keep my drivers updated.
ELAN TOUCHPAD IS MALWARE...IT IS A VIRUS.

The above picture shows what the Elan Touch Clickpad. There were no registry entries required. Once the Mouse is removed is removed from the USB Port the Elan Touch Clickpad become active. You might have to test it two or three times. Each time I tried typed above the screen turned blue.
I have had problem installing software a couple time that require support from HP and Microsoft that I didn't have on my old Pavilion. I was on the phone for a long time with HP Support trying to disable Elan Touch Clickpad. The support agent was unable to disable it. I had to call Microsoft Support who had a little problem with installation of the software. I have not had any problems with the Clickpad since.

Hi Saprodani,
On my HP laptop (a different model to yours), I disabled my Elan touchpad by typing "touchpad" (without quotes of course) in my search box. It shows a link to the settings (see images attached) where the touchpad can be toggled on or off - very simple - no registry changes at all. Hope this works on your model laptop
cheers

Hey there. I had to call support to help me with disabling the touch pad when my trackball is in use back early June... now, after a stupid HP update, it is now interfering again while I am attempting to work in QuickBooks and messing EVERYTHING up! I have tried everything you had suggested in the thread and I do not have the disable button as it is grayed out, and when I try to do the registry and enter what you had told others to put in, I have no option to enter anything in the left pane. I am so fluffing frustrated with this!! I do not see why they had to make this so fluffing difficult!!!!!! PLEEEEASE HELP!!!!!!!
