Hello,

There is some kind of hissing noise coming from my brand new laptop.
I think this whistle is related to the screen, because when the computer is turned on but there is no picture, there is no noise.
Moreover, when I decrease the brightness to 0% or increase it to 100%, there is no noise. Between these two levels I can hear the hissing sound.
This problem appears whether I'm on battery or not, and I've already checked that my sound and graphics card drivers are up to date.

Thank you very much for your help.

@MacFlaye,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are hear noise coming from your new HP notebook. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Does the computer freeze or shut down after heating up?

Does the fan make a loud noise, what pattern is the noise? Is it grinding, clicking, buzzing, or clicking noise.

Did this start after a software or windows update?

What is the exact error message do you get on the screen?

For now please perform all the prescribed steps from these links to try and fix the issue- HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01007591

Link 2: reducing heat inside the computer: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01657439

I would suggest here is to update the Bios, and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to run an extensive system test on the computer from F2(Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Thank you for your answer.

To respond, the computer does not heat, freeze, or shut down. The noise does not come from the fans.
In addition, I have not received any error messages.

Actually, the computer works perfectly.

It's just a kind of light high pitched noise that comes from the screen and again, only when the brightness is higher than 0% and inferior to 100%.

I think the noise has been present since the beginning but I have really realised that with the use. It did not appear after an update or after a software installation.

I followed all the steps you describe to perform a diagnosis on the laptop.

Again, I've already checked that my drivers are up to date as well as the BIOS, and HP support Assistant is already installed on my computer.

I hope you have all the information you needed.

Thank you very much for your help

@MacFlaye,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

After reviewing your post thoroughly, I understand there is a high pitched noise coming from the screen and this happens only when adjusting the brightness.

I understand you have tried to update the Bios and graphics card drivers either from our HP support website or using HP support assistant.

If you have already tried these steps and still having the issue. In this scenario, If the noise is not too loud and if the PC is functioning without any issues,

You can go ahead and use the notebook. However, if you feel the noise is annoying,

In this scenario, I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
