HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fc0000 (733M4AV)

Hello! I just opened my laptop last night and suddenly saw a white line on my screen. I never accidentally dropped my laptop. What should I do?

Hi @Fel71, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A white line on your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-fc0000 (733M4AV) screen can be caused by several factors, including hardware or software issues. Since you haven't dropped your laptop, let's go through some troubleshooting steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop completely.
  2. Disconnect any peripherals (USB devices, external monitors, etc.).
  3. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  4. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
  5. Reconnect the power adapter and turn the laptop back on.

Check if the Issue Appears in BIOS

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and repeatedly press F10 to enter the BIOS.
  3. If the white line appears in the BIOS screen, it's likely a hardware issue (screen or cable problem).
  4. If the line doesn’t appear in BIOS, the issue might be driver-related.

Update Graphics Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (Press Win + X → Select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Display Adapters.
  3. Right-click your graphics driver (AMD Radeon or Intel) and choose Update driver.
  4. Select Search automatically for drivers and install any updates.
  5. Restart your laptop.

Connect to an External Monitor

  1. Plug in an external monitor via HDMI.
  2. If the external monitor does not show the white line, your laptop's screen may have a hardware defect.
  3. If the line appears on both screens, it’s likely a GPU or software issue.

Perform a Screen Test (Built-in HP Diagnostics)

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly, then press F2 to open HP Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Display Test to check for hardware faults.
  4. If an error code appears, note it down and check HP's support website.

Check for hardware damage

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
