Even after looking at the specifications for the ZBook Studio x360 G5 workstation and the HP Thunderbolt G2 230W Dock, it is not 100% clear to me that a widescreen monitor with 3440 x 1440 resolution will be compatible (eg 32in Widescreen) - and if so does this require the notebook's HDMI and/or Thunderbolt port, or if the G2 dock can be used as well.
The documentation seems clearer for the number of displays and resolutions supported but not for widescreen monitors.
I don't want to find out after purchasing a 32 or 34" widescreen monitor that the ZBook and Dock I have will only support lower resolution than the monitor.
If someone can confirm that one or two 32in widescreen monitors with 3440x1440 resolution will work and which connection is required (dp, HDMI etc) that would help me go shopping.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c07722736
It has (2) Thunderbolt 3 (supporting DisplayPort 1.3, USB 3.1 Gen 2, PCIe Gen 3 devices) ports.
The specs of the dock is https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05913756 With DP 1.3 it supports 1, 2 or 3 external monitors depending on resolution and refresh rates an shown to the table. I can't see wide screen option. But with one monitor, that should work.
Regards.

I can confirm that the Samsung LC34J79WTE works at 3440x1440 resolution via the HDMI port on the ZBook, and via the Thundebolt port on the G2 dock. I can also use at least two monitors - I also have a 1920x1080 monitor added in extend screen mode, and although I had issues with that monitor flickering (in fact two different monitors) that seemed to go away when VGA cable was connected to the Dock, all seems to be working fine.
I have not yet tried to connect addtional monitors to the Dock or ZBook, but may do so one day.
