HP Pavilion x360 Convertible Laptop PC 14-dh0018tu
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi there,

I recently purchased a HP USB-C dock G5 to project my wife's laptop to some LG monitors I setup for her.

The laptop (14-dh0018tu) does not have thunderbolt, but I was under the impression that it would display but not charge via her USB-C port on her laptop. My laptop (15-eh1000) has no issues working with this setup.

I have connected to displays to the Dock using DVI to Hdmi and DVI to Display Port cables.

Is her laptop just not compatible?

Kind regards.

Hi @MacoStallion,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

The HP Pavilion x360 14-dh0018tu does not support DisplayPort over USB-C, which is required for video output through the HP USB-C Dock G5. Unlike your HP 15-eh1000, which likely has DisplayPort Alt Mode, the Pavilion x360 14-dh0018tu's USB-C port is limited to data transfer and power delivery but does not support video output.

Possible Workarounds:

Use an HDMI or DisplayPort Adapter

  • Check if the laptop has an HDMI or DisplayPort output and connect directly to the monitor using an appropriate adapter or cable.

Use a USB to HDMI Adapter

  • A USB-A to HDMI adapter (such as a DisplayLink-based adapter) can provide video output. However, this solution relies on software drivers and may not perform as well as a native video output.

Check Dock Compatibility

  • The HP USB-C Dock G5 is designed for devices that support DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. If video output is crucial, consider a different dock with a built-in DisplayLink chipset.
