Just updated my laptop to latest Win 10 and all went well except fingerprint reader no longer works. In Device Manager it shows the Validity Sensor as installed and "working properly" under "Biometric devices", but further details show "Device USB\VID_138A&PID_0005\3213266df500 requires further installation." The driver is version 2.1.0.2 from 5/4/2009. Have checked for updated drivers, but none found. The fingerprint reader worked properly on Win 10 1803, but I remember having to hunt for drivers back then also. Unfortunately, that driver no longer works. Suggestions welcome, thanks.

@Apesbrain
Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand, fingerprint stopped functioning after installing Windows 10.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
How did you install Windows 10 in your notebook?
As per the Driver Page, your notebook has only Windows 7 drivers available, which means it is not tested with Windows 10.
Therefore, you will have to rely on windows drivers to get Fingerprint working again.
Or you could reinstall Windows 7 using HP Recovery Media to fix the problem.
To order Recovery Media, you could refer to this article: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/bph07143
Hope this answers your query,
If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us.
Cheers!
