@LarryF34 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that face recognition will not work.
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Enable Biometric in Local Group Policy:
- Use Win + R to launch the Run.
- Type “gpedit.msc” and then hit the Enter.
- Expand Computer Configuration and then go to Administrative Templates -> Windows Components –> Biometrics.
- Double-click it and then open the Allow the use of a biometrics setting.
- Check the Enabled option.
- Click the Apply and then OK.
- Apply the modification one more time to the
- Allow users to log on using a biometrics setting.
- Restart your computer and let the modification take effect.
Reset Facial Recognition and/or Fingerprint Options:
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Under the Accounts menu, select Sign-In.
- Locate Fingerprint or Facial Recognition options and click Remove under them.
- Choose to Get Started and then follow the on-screen instructions to reset Fingerprint and Facial Recognition.
- Reboot your computer to check whether this reset helps to troubleshoot unresponsive Windows Hello functionality.
Update Webcam/Fingerprint Drivers via Device Manager:
- Press the Win + X to open Device Manager.
- Expand the entries for your biometrics device.
- Right-click the device and choose Uninstall.
- Go to the Action menu.
- Select Scan for hardware changes.
- Then Windows 10 will detect and update the camera or the fingerprint scanner drivers.

Apart from the face recognition, does the webcam work with other applications? so that we can determine if the webcam is faulty or if we need to work on the windows hello app.
If the webcam is no longer working either, use the below steps:
If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.
If that doesn't work, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver. To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.
Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)
Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.
- Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
- Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
- Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.
