Hello , my fingerprint access stopped working again on my HP Envy, may have been after an update, and now when i go to fingerprint set up it says WIndows Hello is currently not available. I only bought the laptop in November and now it has stopped sign in via fingerprint. Not a massive issue but surely it should be supported through Windows Hello?
I had a response from KrazyToad which fixed the issue for 2 weeks and then it has now reverted back. Windows and HP updates up to date.
thank you
Tamiga

I cannot find where you have told us exactly which computer model you have.
For example, if there is a new driver, we cannot check for it without knowing the details.
HP Envy is just not enough information. Smiling.
How to find:
Finding your Product Name, Product Number, or Serial Number
Please do not post the serial number!

Yes. It is enough. Thank you.
There are two main choices for your fingerprint reader device driver:
The one in your computer's support website and a newer driver that might work (and / or be necessary).
Read / Scroll through the (following) content -
Then start back (here) at the beginning and use what you want / need.
Method - Use the available driver in Software and Drivers
From your computer's Category Software and Drivers
Subsection: Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
Method - Consider an Alternate Driver
Alternatively, if the driver in Software and Drivers does not suffice,
there is a newer driver that may be better:

Preparation
Recommended / General Information
Create a Backup of your Data
Create a backup of all your most critical / sensitive files to other than on the computer. For example, copy your most important folders and files to your Cloud backup. to a USB stick, "Somewhere" you can access the files should the computer become unavailable.
Important Side Bar
This is a good time to remind you (and those reading) that it is essential that you always keep your most critical information (files / images / documents) backed up to a location not directly on your computer. For example, in addition to using backup software (for example File History), keep at least your most important data backed up to a USB stick, to the cloud, "somewhere" you can access your data if your computer becomes unavailable. Remember, too, that "Cloud" needs Internet access to work. Think of the types of information you keep in the Safe in the garage - store "what matters most" of your digital data where you can get to it in an emergency.
(How to) Create Restore Point
Create a Restore point before you make changes to your computer's software and setups.
Stop all programs: Browsers, games, Applications, etc.
Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection >
Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point
OR
(As available)
Create a restore point now for the drives that have system protection turned on
Create
Windows PIN
Reminder: Windows Hello and Fingerprint logon require that you have your Windows PIN set and ready to use.
You may already have a Windows PIN login set up and ready to go. Should there be a problem with the PIN, in most cases, you will receive a notice from Windows that there is an issue - you can then reset the PIN as needed.
