HP Envy X360 model 15m-dr0011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Trying to get the fingerprint scanner to work, and within sign in options Hello, fingerprint and Pin are listed as "option currently unavailable." I have fully updated windows as of 8/1/19. I have gone into the device manager, biometric devices and reinstalled the driver. "option currently unavailable." Then I uninstalled the device (fingerprint reader) and did a hardware scan, which then reinstalled the device and driver. "option currently unavailable." I have even gone into the registry, per some internet suggestions, and did a registry edit: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System and added Dword 32 bit: AllowDomainPINLogin with a 00000001 value "option currently unavailable." Any suggestions?

Hi! @EasyRizer

Was the fingerprint reader working previously?

Were there any recent windows update on the PC?

The laptop is shipped with Synaptics Secure Pad for the fingerprint reader.

Try the steps recommended below.

Step 1: Uninstall the Fingerprint reader software.
Click on Ask Me Anything box beside the Start button.
Type Device Manager and open device manager from the search results.
Under the Biometric category, right-click on anything which is listed and select Uninstall.
Step 2: Restart the PC.
Step 3: Please download the latest Fingerprint reader software from this link.
Step 4: Install the software and configure your fingerprint.

Install the latest printer fingerprint drivers from this link. Click Here

Update the latest version of BIOS using this link. Click Here

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Step 1. Use the Windows shortcut keysWin + R to launch the Run.

Step 2. Type “gpedit.msc” and then hit the Enter.

Step 3. Expand Computer Configuration and then go to Administrative Templates -> Windows Components –> Biometrics.

Step 4. Double-click it and then open the Allow the use of biometrics setting.

Step 5. Tick the Enabled option.

Step 6. Click the Apply and then OK.

Step 7. Apply the modification one more time to the Allow users to log on using biometrics setting.

Step 8. Restart your computer and let the modification take effect.

Roll back drivers / use default drivers

Open Device Manager by right clicking the Start Button and choosing Device Manager from the list.
Locate your fingerprint driver and double click it to open its properties.
Click the Roll Back Driver button.

Prevent your PC from turning off USB devices

Open Device Manager.

Go to Universal Serial Bus controllers section and double click USB Root Hub.
Navigate to the Power Management tab. Now uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Click on OK to save changes.
Repeat these steps for all USB Root Hub devices that you have on your PC.

Lastly, try the steps recommended below to solve the pin login issues.

  • To reset a PIN when you're trying to sign in:
    • On the sign-in screen, select I forgot my PIN below the PIN text box. If there are multiple accounts on the PC, choose the one you need to reset. If you don't see I forgot my PIN, select Sign-in options and choose the password option. Then reset your PIN after you've signed in.

    • On the Enter your password screen, type the password for your Microsoft account, and then select Next. You can reset your password if you've forgotten it too.

    • On the Help us protect your info screen, choose to receive your security code either as a text or email message. If you select text, type the last four digits of your phone number, and then select Send CodeLearn more about security info and verification codes.

    • When you get the code as a text or email message on a separate device, enter it on the Enter the code you received screen, and then select Next.

    • In the Set up a PIN dialog box, enter your new PIN and confirm it. Your new PIN is set.

  • If you remember your PIN and sign in successfully, you can then change the PIN to a number you'll remember more easily next time.
  • To change a PIN when you're signed in:
    • Go to Start   > Settings  > Accounts Sign-in optionsNote: If you've just updated your computer to Windows 10, go to Start   > Settings  > Network and Internet. Make sure you're connected to the internet. If you aren't, connect and then try signing in with your PIN again.

    • Tap or click I forgot my PIN and then set up your new PIN.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
